I need hardly say that neither my staff nur myself

were aware of the existence of the steamer "Tai On"

until her arrival in Canton on this occasion, as it is

over a year and a half ago that the steamer last came to

Canton. In order to avoid all chance of a similar mis-

understanding in the future I am asking the Warbour

aster, to furnish me from time to time with a list of

steavors and lamches provided with Colonial registers of

licenses.
